Users review: Revenge is hardly a fresh concept in film-making. This is the main theme, but this takes a back seat to style implementation from the oven. Told by an all-star cast, the story unfolds slowly but powerfully. Seen in a rural, contemporary America, the cinematography gets a beautiful country and the honor that seemed gradually to be under the weight of the war and the economy. The cast skillfully fleshes out the various characters, establishing credibility and give them a rare level of depth. It makes the environment tangible and probably makes the human drama element of the real star of the film. The whole cast is great and important, however, Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson really steals the show. If the bad-to-the-bone script villain, Harrelson was terribly frightening, his mere presence on the screen inciting unrest. Otherwise, Bale plays a beautiful but troubled man, condemned to watch his life disintegrate a little at a time. I caught the director, Scott Cooper, a segment of the interview with Carson Daly. He referred to the desire to influence and immerse the audience in his films. In this regard, I would attempt this a very good success to be condemned. During some scenes, I found myself echoing the actions and emotions portrayed on the screen, such as fear, freedom, anxiety, stress, and especially an enlightened spirit of calm. More drama than action, the show reminded me of the place beyond the pines, another well-executed drama with a crime specific flavoring. Also, I felt that Pearl Jam number that opens and closes the film was a perfect choice for the intended vibe, and deserves a special mention. Overall, this film is very good, despite the absence of the glamor and flash of an action movie. As a drama, I highly recommend it to fans of the genre.
